Ficlet: They tried to make me go to rehab
Rating: PG

Summary: Three times Veronica has had to drop someone off at rehab

 

 

The first time Veronica dropped a person at a rehab facility it was her mother, and she was only seventeen. Some people she knew would have thought that that was to young but she was raised in Neptune and that usually meant that every third or fourth parent generally needed some form of rehab. Some people where lucky they got families filled with love and laughter with both parents and that was a time Veronica barely remembered, from a time before paternity questions, murders and known infidelity.

Looking on as her mother continued to look back at her instead of where she was going, she gave a small wave before leaving her there.

She was half way back to Neptune when she realised that she had just taken the biggest gamble of her life and for some reason she couldn’t shake the fact that it wasn’t going to pay off.

The second time Veronica had taken someone to rehab was in her junior year of college. She was woken by a pounding at on her apartment door. Untangling her limbs from the sleeping boy next to her she grabbed the two closest pieces of clothing and opened the door while rubbing his eyes. She was startled awake by the sight of a drunken Celeste when started babbling about things that Veronica could barely make sense of. Pulling the woman inside, while trying not to snap at her when she struggled, Veronica locked the front door and headed back to her room. Shaking awake the boy in the bed, she turned to pull on her own clothes as Logan tried to pull her back to bed.

“‘Ronica,” he mumbled, not seeming to have the ability to say her whole name, “Why are you up?”

“Celeste Kane is in our living room,” she whispered, pulling a shirt over her head, “I’m going to take her to a rehab facility.”

“Why?”

“She’s drunk Logan and she was saying something about Leanne and Jake,” she whispered.

Logan nodded as he pulled the sheets away, “Give me a moment. I’ll go with you.”

Two hours later Veronica signed away her savings and part of her guilt before standing with Logan and waving goodbye to the woman she had once referred to as ‘Ice Queen’ as if they cared a lot more than she actually did. As the door shut them out, Veronica couldn’t help but think that she had done this two times too many.

The third time Veronica had taken someone to rehab hadn’t come as much of a surprise. After all she had been expecting to take Dick to a rehab facility since the end of their senior year of high school, she just hadn’t expected him to hold out for so long. However finding him stoned in her apartment when he was suppose to be babysitting her daughter was the last straw.

“Can you just stop with the lecture dude,” Dick whined turning his head away from her and pressing it into his window.

“No. You were smoking weed in house as my daughter. I’m not stopping this lecture until we get to there.” Veronica replied, pulling on his ear so that he was facing her.

“Stop! I’m sorry.”

“Well sorry isn’t good enough this time.”

After signing him in and waving goodbye Veronica took the 4 hour journey home to be greeted by her husband, who was juggling dinner and their child.

“Where have you been?” Logan asked with a small smile when he noticed her at the door, “And more importantly why was Weevil with Ally and not Dick.”

“Cause Dick decided that it was a good idea to smoke weed while babysitting.” Veronica replied before placing her arms around Logan.

“You should have called. I would have taken him.” Logan whispered putting down dinner in favour of pulling her closer.

“It doesn’t matter, but the next person who shows up needing to go to rehab you’re dealing with, ok. ‘Cause three times is three to many.”

The third trip to rehab was my favorite, because we got a little snippet of Veronica and Logan's happy family, and Dick was quite funny too. ;)

I like this piece, especially because the second trip to rehab was definitely unexpected. I really liked the twist and by having Celeste talking about Lianne and Jake make it believable. Like Veronica *would* be the only one who can understand. I also like the twist on Dick's vinette too - that it was weed and he was babysitting Logan and Veronica daughter. Nice original storytelling.

There were several grammar mistakes, fyi. Always a good idea to have someone else look a story over before posting to catch those small errors.

I'm gald you liked it. I wanted to try something different with the rehab stories.

I realise there are probably some mistakes in their and usually I wouldn't have posted something for vmfic_gameon without having someone else look at it but I just didn't have the time.
